Here is a simple but informative timeline that centers around the area of Antioch and Thonotosassa Florida. I will later add some links to places as I find them that might give a little more information about each event.

  • 1812-1813 - Chief Billy Bowlegs had a Seminole-Creek Village on Lake Thontosassa.
  • 1835 - Thursday Dec. 24th Major Dade camped along the banks of the Lake
  • 1836 - Reference to Army records that a Ft. Thonotosassa many soldiers died
  • 1846 - 1st Family of William Goodman Miley with his wife and 5 children homestead here with 40 acres
  • 1852 - Thonotosassa Baptist Church established
  • 1855 - Marthe Wilder age 14 - 1st buried in Old Thonotosassa Cemtery
  • 1872 - George Adams moved here from CT. filed for 163 acres on the north side of the Lake on August 13 1883
  • 1881 - Gen. Hazen arrives
  • 1883 - A.C Moore established Thonotosassa 1st grocery store
  • 1883 - Miss Ida Davis taught in one room log school house
  • 1885 - Hazen plants 25 acres of orange trees
  • 1890 - 250 people living in Antioch and two churches established
  • 1891 - Grandview Hotel opens - Built by Hazen (President Harding dined here often)
  • 1892 - Post Office established in Antioch
  • 1905 -Raney House
  • 1912 - Rhodes House is built on the Lake
  • 1915 - Jenks Jenning House - successful black citrus grower
  • 1918 - Elijah Graves opened General Store
  • 1929 - Dr. Malcom Smith House - Tampa Dentist
  • 1930 - Hodaz Lynching
  • 1930 - Election reached Antioch
